Building Momentum …

The best ideas come to you in the shower: Have you ever noticed the best ideas come to you when you least expect it? It’s true … the idea for this blog was born right here, in my very own shower. (I’ll spare you the visual). Many of the stories and ideas you will hopefully read in the future were documented for the first time within 10 seconds of running down the hallway to my office all while leaving a wet trail behind me just so I wouldn’t forget the idea. I’m certain I’m not the only mom whose memory has decided to take a hiatus after birthing children. I think the years of sleep deprivation have taken a toll and have affected more than just the bags under my eyes. As a result, my very first gift-giving tip would be a cute journal for all of the “memory-challenged” moms on your holiday list. We love the 100% recycled Sasquatch Ideal Book from carolinapad.

So, back to my story of how SoMo was conceived…. I am pleased to have spent the greater part of 2009 collaborating with my SoMo girls who you will soon meet. We could write a chapter alone on the crazy times and places we met in order to finish the site THIS decade… I’m talking about phone conversations while making peanut butter & jelly sandwiches with kids tugging at our shirts; leaving notes on each other’s doorsteps while running down the street to chase after a school bus; meeting in the preschool carpool line, journals in hand just to have a few uninterrupted moments; and my personal favorite, sneaking out at 10 pm after bath and bedtime stories so not to take away from any special family moments. We are so blessed to have such supportive husbands who picked up the slack while we were off chasing dreams and running with this idea we are each so passionate about.

You see, we are Moms, just like you who are struggling to “find ourselves” and to find our groove in life somewhere between wiping noses and sitting at soccer games. We are not molded from Martha Stewart and although at times we like to convince ourselves and others we are, we need a constant reminder that we are not perfect, we are human. Oh, and that Martha Stewart has a producer, a hairdresser, a house cleaner, a trainer … you get the idea.

Southern Momentum has taken many shapes over the past few months, but above all, it has stayed true to a central theme… Inspiring moms to hit their stride. (Hence, the name MOMentum). What does that mean? It’s getting to THAT place in our lives, where as busy Moms, we can begin to give ourselves the credit we deserve for doing the best we can. We can juggle all of our responsibilities without sacrificing the essence of the person looking back at us in the mirror. This blog aims to help Moms get to that point in their lives.

Developing Southern Momentum has been a challenging, yet inspiring journey and we are now ready and excited to share it with you. We are all here because of one common bond… our passion and spirit for Motherhood. Take a MOMent to visit us at naptime. Laugh with us. Share and seek wisdom. Spread joy. Express your happiness for life and challenges you may stumble upon. Make a difference and for fun, feel free to admit a dirty little secret or two. Last but certainly not least … reclaim your inner spirit … be you! In the words of an unknown author, “Those who know and love you shall rise to your example and be inspired!” Thank you for being in our world!
